The Lieutenant Governorship is one of the rare positions in Vermont’s state government where Republicans have the potential to make gains. With David Zuckerman’s announcement that he is running for the Vermont governorship, the sudden opening for the position has lawmakers looking for a promotion. According to the Burlington Free Press, a subsidiary of USA Today, three Democrats have announced their intentions to run, Tim Ashe of Burlington, Brenda Siegel of Newfane, and Debbie Ingram of Williston. Three Republicans have announced their runs as well, Dana Colson of Sharon, Meg Hanson of Manchester, and Dwayne Tucker of Barre. While this is a new development, the current question over rather Phil Scott will run for re-election is still floating over the race.

Meanwhile in North Carolina, the six Democrats that are running to become the state Lieutenant Governor have their first polling performance out thanks to Public Policy Polling. While a solid majority of voters are undecided (77%), the two leaders of the poll are Allen Thomas, who ran in the 3rd congressional district special election in 2019, and Yvonne Holley with 6% and 7% respectively. Terry Van Duyn and Chaz Beasley hold 4% and 3% of the vote, while the remaining candidates hold 2%. To summarize this information in the most brief and simplistic perspective possible, there is no clear frontrunner like the Republican primary for the position. With March 3rd approaching, Super Tuesday in addition to North Carolina’s primaries, there should be more clarity in this race coming soon.
