While the main action in French politics in 2022 was between Renaissance (the spiritual successor to Le Republique En Marche!) and the National Rally, the 2027 election could look radically different. According to the polling, while they are still in third place nationally, the Socialist Party appears to be gaining from their slump in the 2022 election to a respectable third place as the mainstream alternative to Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen. Let’s get to the stories.             Starting off with the national headlines, the polling slump regarding 2027 appears to be concluding with polls starting to slowly pick … Continue reading Foreign Politics, 4-14-2024, Updates On The 2027 French Presidential Election

State Legislative Politics, 1-28-2024, Kentucky Considers Moving Its Gubernatorial Elections To Even, Presidential Years

After the 2023 Kentucky gubernatorial election returned Andy Beshear (D-KY) to the governor’s office, the usual power dynamics between winners and losers played out as well as you could believe. The supporters of Beshear were ecstatic that his election was divorced from when the bulk of Republicans in the state would usually cast their votes for statewide candidates for President, Senate, and the state legislature. Republicans, on the flip side, pondered the same idea that New York Democrats had regarding their electoral process in changing the election year of the governor election to coincide with presidential year to ensure that … Continue reading State Legislative Politics, 1-28-2024, Kentucky Considers Moving Its Gubernatorial Elections To Even, Presidential Years

Foreign Politics, 9-24-2023, Updates on The 2027 French Presidential Election

The next French presidential election isn’t until 2027, yet new polling is already suggesting that the two main party paradigm that occupied pre-2017 France is largely a part of the past. According to a new Harris Interactive polling, most French voters would choose either the National Front or La France Insoumise with repeat candidates Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc Melenchon as the party nominee. What is even more surprising is that they are the preferred choice by many leagues with Le Pen getting 33% nationally and 16% going for Melenchon. With that being said, let’s get into the polling and … Continue reading Foreign Politics, 9-24-2023, Updates on The 2027 French Presidential Election

Last week, there were some updates from France, Germany, Ireland, and Poland that were worth discussing regarding upcoming elections and foreign politics. In Germany, the upcoming state election in Saxony in 2024 has the far-right Alternative fur Deutschland party getting its highest share of the vote of any state with 35% potentially granting the party a majority to govern. Hypothetical Maps, 6-25-2023, An Overview Of Mississippi’s Unmoving Electorate

When looking at states whose demographics are fairly fixed for the foreseeable future, Mississippi is a solidly fixated state with Republicans and Democrats in the state being almost perfectly divided by white and black racial preferences. There may be some softening for the Democratic Party in the suburbs but even the most moderate white-dominated suburbs are still overwhelmingly Republican by the national average. There is another number that gives some insight as to why Democrats may collectively stop trying in the Magnolia State after this year’s elections: voter registration numbers. According to Stacker, almost 2.2 million voters are registered in … Continue reading Hypothetical Maps, 6-25-2023, An Overview Of Mississippi’s Unmoving Electorate
