We are really running the table with education-based stories this week, aren’t we? In Oklahoma, state senator Kevin West (R-OK) has proposed a revamped version of his Senate Bill 36 which would allow public schools to hire religious chaplains instead of qualified school counselors to address student situations. While some chaplains may be cross-qualified with the requirements to become school counselors (namely a master’s degree with certification), the bill that West has proposed offers no specificities on the training that the chaplains would require to become employees.
