2024 Presidential General Election Banter, 5-5-2024, Donald Trump To Speak At The Libertarian National Convention

Recently, I saw an announcement that showed that Donald Trump would be speaking at the 2024 Libertarian National Convention in May which sparked some interest. Of all of the various adaptations of Trumpism, libertarianism has never been one of them even if social libertarian components have been incorporated at times. At it’s most libertarian, Trumpism attempts to use old-fashioned financial protectionism coupled with laissez-faire domestic social policy to appeal to centrist voters, while the most radical forms of Trumpism embrace law-and-order politics directly opposite of libertarianism in wanting order at the expense of personal liberty. Nevertheless, the decision by the … Continue reading 2024 Presidential General Election Banter, 5-5-2024, Donald Trump To Speak At The Libertarian National Convention

Democratic Banter #344, Democrats Abroad, Anti-Semitism On The Left, and Updates On The Iran-Israel Situation

Something that is prominent in Democratic circles, but is absent in Republican politics, is the presence of a “Democrats Abroad” vote where Democrats who live overseas can still make their voter preference for President known. It seems strange that individuals who live outside of the United States are making decisions for the U.S. beyond military members who aren’t given the option of where they are located, but I digress. The presidential primary vote was tallied with most of the vote going to Joe Biden being the preferred choice as the incumbent Democratic nominee, but the percentage of the vote like … Continue reading Democratic Banter #344, Democrats Abroad, Anti-Semitism On The Left, and Updates On The Iran-Israel Situation

2024 Libertarian Presidential Primary Banter, 4-21-2024, The Party Still Rests At 2% Nationally Despite Constant Controversy

Whenever different states are being polled regarding third-party performances that could take votes away from either Donald Trump or Joe Biden, the Libertarian vote continues to surprise me. After having suffered through the financial woes of dealing with the Mises Caucus, the internal fighting with the left-libertarians like Joshua Reed Eakle wanting to fight easy battles instead of incursions on civil liberties coming from the left, and the general disarray of horrible statements regarding child labor, John McCain, and January 6th, there are still 2% of voters who are still saying they will vote Libertarian. In particular, the polling has … Continue reading 2024 Libertarian Presidential Primary Banter, 4-21-2024, The Party Still Rests At 2% Nationally Despite Constant Controversy

Foreign Politics, 4-21-2024, Updates On Austria, Germany, Israel, South Korea, and South Africa

There have been multiple updates regarding electoral politics from around the world that are worth commenting on. In Austria, the fate of the governing coalition in the federal government could come down to two parties that wouldn’t otherwise be thought of as serious political parties determining the balance of power. In Germany, the Alternative for Deutschland party is officially starting to come down from it’s sugar high after various European parties of similar types announced that they couldn’t work with them or distanced themselves. In Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu would be poised to lose the next parliamentary election if it were … Continue reading Foreign Politics, 4-21-2024, Updates On Austria, Germany, Israel, South Korea, and South Africa

Foreign Politics, 4-14-2024, Updates On The 2027 French Presidential Election

While the main action in French politics in 2022 was between Renaissance (the spiritual successor to Le Republique En Marche!) and the National Rally, the 2027 election could look radically different. According to the polling, while they are still in third place nationally, the Socialist Party appears to be gaining from their slump in the 2022 election to a respectable third place as the mainstream alternative to Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen. Let’s get to the stories.             Starting off with the national headlines, the polling slump regarding 2027 appears to be concluding with polls starting to slowly pick … Continue reading Foreign Politics, 4-14-2024, Updates On The 2027 French Presidential Election

2024 Presidential General Election Banter, 3-31-2024, Robert Kennedy Jr. Chooses Nicole Shanahan As His Running Mate

For those who wondering why I have been critical of Robert Kennedy, Jr. in the past, the idea of jailing your political opponents for opposing climate change ideas or propositions is a can of worms that shouldn’t be entertained under any circumstances in the United States. After all, if he’s willing to jail your neighbor for saying that the climate emissions from their truck shouldn’t be stopped so that they can get to work, who is to say that he’s not willing to throw his political opponents in jail for opposing gun control or even arguing what degree of social … Continue reading 2024 Presidential General Election Banter, 3-31-2024, Robert Kennedy Jr. Chooses Nicole Shanahan As His Running Mate

2024 Democratic Presidential Primary Banter, 3-24-2024, The Underperformance Of Dean Phillips, The Uncommitted Vote, Etc.

For all of my mentioning of the Republican presidential primaries, the Democratic presidential primaries received scant attention and for good reason. Effectively selected to be a coronation like in 2016 and 2020 from the onset between the superdelegate fiasco of 2016 to the Jim Clyburn endorsement/Elizabeth Warren vote-siphoning of 2020, the effort to control who is the party nominee has been in play for the better part of eight years now. This is relevant to the 2024 race when the Robert Kennedy Jr. campaign announced its independent campaign in protest and Congressman Dean Phillips launched a quixotic bid for the … Continue reading 2024 Democratic Presidential Primary Banter, 3-24-2024, The Underperformance Of Dean Phillips, The Uncommitted Vote, Etc.

2024 Libertarian Presidential Primary Banter, 3-17-2024, The Libertarian Party Warms Up To Robert Kennedy Jr. Undeservingly

A few weeks ago, I had mentioned that Robert Kennedy, Jr. (I-CA) might be planning a run for the Presidency under the Libertarian presidential banner. This would be of symbiotic value to the Libertarian Party from a ballot access perspective in getting a high profile candidate getting a large third-party vote while the national party seems to be struggling to overcome internal divisions. For Kennedy, being a Libertarian candidate allows him to frame his candidacy from the perspective of a viable third party instead of an upstart that gets carried away in the deluge of other third parties. For some … Continue reading 2024 Libertarian Presidential Primary Banter, 3-17-2024, The Libertarian Party Warms Up To Robert Kennedy Jr. Undeservingly

2024 Libertarian Presidential Primary Banter, 3-3-2024, A Straw Poll From The Minnesota Libertarian Party

Usually, when someone brags about winning in a poll, the margin needs to be decisive either percentage-wise or in raw vote tally for the spin of the statement to be shrugged off as objective signs of strength. For example, the Libertarian Party of Minnesota did a straw poll for their non-binding primary which produced another schismatic result after a poll was done of Massachusetts Libertarians that showed that the party was undecided on who it wanted to be their nominee. Those who remember my coverage of that “poll” will recall that only 10 Libertarians were available and most of the … Continue reading 2024 Libertarian Presidential Primary Banter, 3-3-2024, A Straw Poll From The Minnesota Libertarian Party

Late Week Election Round-Up, 2-11-2024, Updates In The Presidential, Senate, Governor, and the House Elections

There have been multiple updates regarding the House, Senate, Governor, and Presidential elections in the past few weeks. In the House, several new primaries are coming into focus as Republicans and Democrats are facing criticism from the center and from their left and right flanks. Additionally, more retirements are mounting as one Representative has decided that they wouldn’t retire after all creating a heated primary in their seat. In the Senate, there are primary worries coming from the right while polling and fundraising has some candidates looking incredibly poor heading into the general election. In the race for governorships, there … Continue reading Late Week Election Round-Up, 2-11-2024, Updates In The Presidential, Senate, Governor, and the House Elections
